In Taiwan (China), Trịnh Gia Thuần is a well-known name thanks to her provocative lingerie photoshoots on social media. However, after getting married, she announced that she would no longer pose in revealing outfits.
At the end of 2022, Trịnh Gia Thuần released a photo album titled Graduation Project, as a farewell to a job that had accompanied her for many years and helped her gain public recognition. Following that, the 30-year-old beauty announced the auction of the lingerie she wore in the photo album. She emphasized that all proceeds would be donated to charity.
Most items were priced under 10,000 New Taiwan Dollars (approximately 320 USD). The most expensive was a red lace lingerie set, listed for 17,000 New Taiwan Dollars (about 544 USD).

The model’s actions sparked controversy within the online community in Taiwan (China). A portion of netizens expressed discomfort over Trịnh Gia Thuần’s sale of used lingerie. Some left harsh comments such as, “She must be sick,” “No sense of shame,” and “These are really just stinky leftover steak used for charity…”
After reading these malicious comments, Gia Thuần took screenshots and filed a lawsuit against three individuals for defamation, insult to her honor, and several other charges.
After receiving the lawsuit, authorities summoned the three defendants for questioning as part of the investigation. One defendant stated, “I believe selling worn lingerie is an immoral act. If money can be made this way, young people might develop distorted thoughts. I didn’t name her directly and did not harm her reputation.”
Based on the content of the comments from the three defendants, the investigative agency determined that while the language used was inappropriate and offensive, it did not rise to the level of a criminal offense. Authorities noted that discussions on public topics must occur openly and without restriction; using such comments as grounds for punishment could create a chilling effect on public expression.
Furthermore, the government stated that as a public figure auctioning off lingerie, attracting widespread interest from netizens and the media, Gia Thuần should have anticipated encountering mixed opinions.
Ultimately, authorities concluded that the comments did not aim to insult or harm Gia Thuần’s reputation, but rather fell within the realm of expressing opinions. Therefore, the three defendants were not prosecuted but were given administrative penalties instead.
