Following the resounding success of Dota 2’s “Auto Battle” mode, Valve released a mobile version just a few months later. With the same line-up, mechanics, and skills as the PC version, Dota Underlords has not achieved much success.

According to a statistic on Reddit, around the time of its launch (June 2019), the number of concurrent players peaked at 200,000. By the following month, it dropped to just 150,000 concurrent players. Now, the highest number of concurrent players is only about 20,000. This represents a serious decline in players, with a reduction of up to 80% compared to the initial numbers.

However, in a contrasting turn of events, Drodo Studio’s Auto Chess has received much more support from players. Fundamentally, you can see similarities between the skill sets of the two, but Drodo Studio has leveraged its bright and accessible graphics to attract gamers.

Perhaps the end of Dota Underlords is nearing to make way for newcomers in the same genre.
