Family of Mr. Hoàng Trường Giang and his wife Vương Quế Trân have lived in a remote rural area of Jilin (China) since the 1990s. Both are farmers, living just barely enough to eat, let alone have meat. The couple has a daughter. Although the family’s life is not wealthy, it is simple and happy. The villagers also have a good impression of their family.
Until one day, the woman’s action changed the family’s life.
One afternoon, Quế Trân took advantage of the cool weather to work in the fields around 4-5 PM. However, before she could reach her own field, she was drawn to a man who was looking for something on the ground. Thinking he had lost something, she intended to help him find it. But as Vương Quế Trân approached, she was astonished to see a burlap sack, covered in dirt and blood, with a snake writhing inside. This left Vương Quế Trân so frightened that she couldn’t utter a word.

She nervously asked the man what he was doing. Despite not wanting to delay his work, when he looked up at Vương Quế Trân, he decided to explain. It turned out he was catching snakes to sell for money. While venomous snakes can harm humans, they also have other uses. Venomous snakes have medicinal value; their venom has many applications in medical research, such as anti-cancer, hemostatic, pain relief… providing many potential health benefits for humans.
Snake skin has even higher value. At that time, people in the city had started looking for ways to use snake skin in various bags and jewelry. Or at least, for those who couldn’t afford to buy meat, they would choose to eat snake meat to satisfy their cravings.
After hearing this, Vương Quế Trân no longer felt afraid but instead felt sorrow. She discussed with the man whether the snake could be released. The man looked at Vương Quế Trân as if she were crazy. Vương Quế Trân worriedly grabbed the man’s arm, pleading with him to release the snake. She also murmured that it was injured and its flesh was exposed.

The man helplessly offered to sell it to her for 100 yuan (about 350,000 VND). But at that time, most villagers had a monthly income of under 100 yuan, so how could she afford that much money?
She rummaged through her pockets and found only 20 yuan. Seeing that she was increasingly distressed and not wanting to waste more time, the man took the money and left the snake behind. Quế Trân then took the venomous snake home and took care of it diligently.
Husband Wants a Divorce Because His Wife is Close to the Snake
Her husband returned home to rest after a long day in the fields and was shocked to see his wife caring for the writhing snake on the ground with a loving expression. She even called the venomous snake “son”!

The moment Hoàng Trường Giang saw the snake, he broke out in a cold sweat and his hair stood on end. His face turned red with anger as he pointed at Vương Quế Trân and shouted. Everyone knows that being bitten by a venomous snake can at least lead to poisoning or, in the worst case, death. The two argued for hours, but in the end, Trường Giang had no choice but to let Vương Quế Trân heal the animal before releasing it.
While Hoàng Trường Giang was scared every day, fearing that one night he would wake up to see a venomous snake in front of him, his wife Quế Trân dedicated all her attention to caring for the venomous snake. The day to release the snake had finally arrived. Trường Giang was secretly relieved, while she, though unwilling, had to take the animal she had bonded with out to the fields.

What the couple did not expect was that when they returned home that night, they discovered the snake they had driven away had come back. Even after trying this method several days later, the snake still found its way back home. Seeing this, the wife decided to keep it around. Hoàng Trường Giang, upon hearing this, was about to explode. Seeing Vương Quế Trân holding the venomous snake as a treasure, he yelled, “If you want to keep this venomous snake, then let’s get a divorce.” Their daughter came home from school, saw her mother enchanted, pointed at the venomous snake, and said she wanted to run away from home.

The husband wanted a divorce, the daughter wanted to run away, and the neighbors gossiped, but the woman remained unfazed. She believed she had a connection with the snake. Unable to change his wife, Mr. Hoàng Trường Giang reluctantly accepted to live with the magical snake.
Later, the villagers gradually accepted the elderly couple raising snakes, and some even called Vương Quế Trân to catch snakes when they saw venomous snakes around.
Unveiling the Truth
As time passed, the story of a snake clinging to the woman and refusing to leave attracted media attention, and some even came to their house to take photographs.

Some experts hurried to their house. After learning about the couple’s story, they explained that it was not the snake that was magical or clinging to the person who saved it. The experts stated that the reason the venomous snake could leave multiple times and return home was due to their acute sense of smell and that they return home based on scent. They then helped the couple release the venomous snake back into the wild.
